First off, my commitment to Carroll. Although unofficially in the works, I did win a scholarship to begin an integrative medicine continuing education certification. As a way to give back to Carroll for the amazing opportunity, I was approached with the idea of giving a guest lecture to the year 1 DPT students during their integrative medicine unit on some concepts the continuing education taught me. I think spreading the intellectual wealth Carroll university afforded me back into the wonderful system they have created would be a great way to demonstrate my commitment to our university.
Professionally, locally, and globally I hope to do this through personal branding. Part of what won me that scholarship mentioned above was an essay on the ways I want to impact the profession in the future. In an era where so much misinformation is available online and many people turning to the internet first for advise on health, I thought it was time to innovate. There are many underserved populations that may have access to programs, but don't have the knowledge on how to take control of their own health and take advantage. Project Aequitas was my solution. Latin for Project Equity, this would be a website launch with the goal to create intellectual equity in communities across the globe in the field of health. I set the objective to have members of PT, nursing, OT, nutritionists, sleep experts, Doctors, insurance providers (to discuss access and programs) and more health professionals become part of a platform to give general advice. Obviously for individualized issues and medical concerns 1 on 1 consults would always be recommended, but having a place where professionals could provide credible and evidence based advise to the public would benefit society. It would be standard practice to post using layman's terms, but to provide links to the research supporting the advice in order to be published. Everyone has a right to health, and what better way than to create a single place where people can receive trusted advice at no cost.
Attached will be a copy of the essay from the scholarship as well as a potential logo for this future service endeavor discussed above:
